Arithmetic
Sumit sold an article at a certain profit . Had he purchased the article for 12% less than what he actually purchased it for and sold it for 24% more than what he actually sold it for , his profit percentage would have been 5/2 times his actual profit percentage . Find his actual profit percentage .
1. 27.5%
2. 28.28%
3. 33.33%
4. 37.5 %
Let his cost price be ‘x’ and selling price be ‘y’.
If he purchased for 12% less than the cost price will be 88% of x and if he sells at 24% more his sellling price will be 124% of y .
(124% of y – 88% of x )/(88% of x) = 5/2 [ (y-x)/2
solving we get y /x = 11/8
Hence, Actual profit percentage = (3/8)× ( 100) = 37.5%
