Quant Question Of The Day: 174
Arithmetic
An electronics dealer marks up a refrigerator by 40% and offers a discount of 20% on the marked price. If he gives a further discount of 500 to a customer and makes a profit of 2,500, then what is the marked price of the refrigerator?
Let the cost price of the refrigerator be x.
Marked price: 1.4x
Discount offered 20% of 1.4x + 500
hence, the selling Price of the refrigerator = (1.4x) 80/100 – 500
1.12x – 500 = x + 2,500
0.12x = 3,000
x = 25,000
Hence, marked price = 25000 = 35,000.

12% -500=2500
1%=250
100%=25000 answer
you calculated cost price correctly, but the actual question is marked price.
marked price is 25000*1.4 = 35000
112%-500=100%+2500
Answer=25000
