What is the area enclosed by the graphs y = |x + a| and y = 5
if a > 0 ?

a)25 sq. units
b)50 sq. units
c)75 sq. units
d)100 sq. units
e)depends on the value of a

C is the answer. y = |x+a| is a modulus graph. It will change the position, based on the value of 'a', but not the shape. It is a V-shaped graph, that will make a triangle with y = 5. The base and the height will be 10 and 5, respectively, hence the area will be 75.

A is the answer, sorry for the error. (1/2)*10*5=25.

 Hello S. Nath,

Please find the solution

OA = 7, height = y

7 x y =21 => y =3

Co-ordinate of B (10, 3)

It's simply half of a square whose diagonal length is 10. So required area = 25.
