Puzzle of the day: 151
There are 4 spiders in a box. They have either 8, 9 or 10 legs. Spiders with odd numbers of legs always lie and spider with even number of legs always speak truth. When it was asked to them individually that how many legs they have collectively, they gave following answers.
Spider 1: we have 33 legs collectively
spider 2; we have 34 legs collectively
spider 3: we have 35 legs collectively
spider 4: we have 36 legs collectively
Which of the 4 spiders is truthful.
Solution let’s analyze statements: Spider 1 says 33 legs, it means 3 have 8 legs and 1 has 9 legs (8, 8, 8 , 9) (3truthful) spider 2: 34 legs – it means ( 8, 8, 8, 10) or (8, 8, 9, 9) (all 4 truthful) or (2 truthful) spider 3 : 35 legs – it means (8, 8, 9, 10) or (8,9,9,9) ( 3 truthful) or (1 truthful) since all have different answer only one of them could be truthful this possibility is visible in case of spider 3, hence spider 3 spoke truth>
