Aman takes 3 hour and 45 minutes to row a boat 15km in the direction of flow of river. And he takes 2 hour and 30 minutes to travel a distance of 5km in the direction opposite to flow of river in same boat. Find the speed of flow of river.

Solution: Let the speed of Aman in still water = a km/hr
And speed of flow of river = b km/hr
So, as per given conditions, we have a + b = (15km)/(3 hour and 45 minutes) = 4km/hr
And a – b = (5km)/(2 hour and 30 minutes) = 2km/hr
So b = (4 – 2)/2 = 1km/hr.
