Sir, why is it not option B .How do we eliminate option B?
The paragraph mentions two large companies battling it out to win in the Indian e-commerce market. They are not just vying for greater market shares.
Secondly, the strategies that will be used by two e-commerce companies have been mentioned. It is stated that these strategies will lead to “more and more millennials doing their shopping from their couches”. This does not necessarily mean that other types of customers will also be won over by e-commerce companies. It gives a one-sided picture, and hence a conclusion about the future of traditional malls being ‘bleak’ is unwarranted. It is an extreme conclusion. There is uncertainty over the future of physical stores, which is captured by option D.
I hope this clarifies your doubt 🙂
B
That’s incorrect, Rishabh. Don’t worry about it though. See the answer and its explanation in my comment below.

The answer is D.
Explanation:
A. This misses the main point of the paragraph that the future of physical stores is in question.
B. This uses the extreme word ‘bleak’. This description is, in fact, beyond the scope of the paragraph.
C. This is beyond the scope of the paragraph. Customers being enticed away from physical stores cannot be determined from the paragraph.
D. This is the answer. It captures the main point of the paragraph that the future of physical stores is in question. It also mentions the premise of competition between large e-commerce firms.
D.
I believe that the other options talks of consequences not mentioned in the passage above.
However, I could succinctly fathom that the future of malls is weak. Please correct me if I am wrong.
You’re right, Shivam. Well done! 🙂
Options B. and C. mention scenarios that are beyond the scope of the paragraph. A. misses the main point, which is a question mark looming over the future of traditional mall and big-brand department stores.
Answer should be the option C.
Hi Shreya, option C. is beyond the scope of the paragraph- customers being enticed away from physical stores cannot be determined from the paragraph.
The answer is D. It captures the main point of the paragraph that the future of physical stores is in question. It also mentions the premise of competition between large e-commerce firms.
Write back in case you have any doubts 🙂
